Brief on Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, Lindau, Germany

I   Overview

Founded in 1951, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting is a unique international scientific forum. Once every year, around 30-40 Nobel Laureates convene in                                   Lindau to meet the next generation of leading scientists: 600 undergraduates, master students, PhD students, and postdocs from all over the world. The                                           annual Meetings provide an opportunity for an exchange between different generations, cultures and disciplines. The meeting is held annually and                                                   focuses alternatively on different discipline(s), namely, Chemistry, Physics, Physiology /Medicine and every two years on Economics.

II       Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology (MoETEST)

The MoETEST signed a MoU with the Lindau Council in 2016. As academic partner of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, MoETEST is requested to identify                          and nominate young scientists to attend the meeting. These scientists should be studying or performing research in Mauritian Higher Education Institutions                                    and should be able to meet the selection criteria of the Lindau Council.

A Selection Panel chaired by the Focal Point (Permanent Secretary of the Tertiary Education and Scientific Research Division) recommends the two best                                        candidates and the names and details of the nominees are submitted on the online database of the Lindau Council. The final selection of candidate(s) who                                      shall attend the meeting is done by the scientific review panel of the Lindau Nobel Laureate.

Lindau Council together with this Ministry co-sponsors 1 Mauritian scientist to attend the event. As per the MoU between Lindau Council and this Ministry, the                            latter meets the participation costs of €1,250 and cost of travelling of the candidate, while the Lindau Council meets remaining participation fee of € 3,750                                    and takes care of accommodation of the participant.
